# App icon generator for iPhone and Android

> Free app icon generator: one image to every iPhone and Android icon, adaptive and round icons, and both store icons, with no alpha channel. In your browser.

Drop one square image — ideally **1024 × 1024** — and get every icon an iPhone and Android app needs: the App Store icon **without an alpha channel**, Android legacy, round and adaptive icons for all five densities, and both store icons. The ZIP is laid out like a Capacitor project, so it unzips straight into your repo. No logo yet? Type an emoji or two letters. Nothing is uploaded.

- Tool: App icon generator. Input: Drop an image. Free, no signup. Runs entirely in the browser; nothing is uploaded.

| Android, round | `ic_launcher_round.png` | 48, 72, 96, 144, 192 | Circle version for launchers that ask for one. |
| Android, adaptive | `ic_launcher_foreground.png` | 108, 162, 216, 324, 432 | 108 dp layer; the launcher shows the middle 72 dp. |
| Android, adaptive | `ic_launcher_background` | — | A colour in `values/`, or a PNG layer for a gradient. |
| Google Play listing | `google-play-icon-512.png` | 512 × 512 | 32-bit PNG, up to 1 MB. Play rounds the corners. |
| App Store listing | — | 1024 × 1024 | Taken from the build; nothing to upload. |

## Put the icons in your app

1. Unzip at the root of the repo and let it replace the existing files. The paths match what `npx cap add ios` and `npx cap add android` create.
2. Commit and push. The next iOS and Android builds use the new icon.
3. Built with **Lovable, Bolt or Base44**? The icons belong to the native projects, not the web app. Add them to the GitHub repo the builder syncs to — or let [CapWrapp](https://capwr.app/login) add Capacitor first, then commit the icons.

Prefer to generate icons in CI? Commit `resources/icon.png` and run `npx @capacitor/assets generate` — that is also the file CapWrapp’s Capacitor pull request asks for.

## Icon rules that avoid a rejection

- **Square and opaque.** No transparency on the iOS icon — it fails the upload with [ITMS-90717](https://capwr.app/free-tools/build-error-explainer/itms-90717).
- **No pre-rounded corners.** Each store and launcher applies its own mask.
- **Same artwork everywhere.** A home-screen icon that doesn’t match the App Store icon is a [Guideline 2.3.8 rejection](https://capwr.app/free-tools/app-store-rejection-explainer/guideline-2-3-8-app-icon).
- **Logo inside the safe zone** on Android: the middle 66 of 108 dp survives every launcher shape.
- **No tiny text or screenshots.** Icons show at 40 to 60 pixels on a phone.

## FAQ

### What size should an app icon be?

Start from 1024 × 1024 pixels. The App Store icon is a 1024 × 1024 opaque square PNG, and Xcode derives the smaller iPhone sizes from it. Android needs launcher icons in five densities, from 48 to 192 pixels, plus 108 dp adaptive layers from 108 to 432 pixels, and Google Play asks for a 512 × 512 listing icon.

### Why does Apple reject my icon for an alpha channel?

The 1024 icon must be a flat image. A PNG saved with an alpha channel fails the upload with ITMS-90717 even when no pixel is transparent — and most design tools and browsers save PNGs with one. This generator writes the iOS icon as a 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel.

### Should I round the corners of my app icon?

No. Upload a square. iOS and Google Play apply their own rounded mask, and Android launchers mask adaptive icons to a circle or squircle; pre-rounded corners leave a visible ring. Only the legacy Android icons, shown as they are on Android 7 and older, are rounded here.

### What is an Android adaptive icon?

Since Android 8, launcher icons have a background and a foreground layer, 108 dp each. The launcher crops them to its own shape and shows the middle 72 dp. Keep a logo inside the 66 dp safe zone so round launchers don’t clip it.

### Where do the files go in a Capacitor project?

Unzip at the root of the repo. The iOS icon lands in ios/App/App/Assets.xcassets/AppIcon.appiconset and the Android icons in android/app/src/main/res. resources/icon.png is the 1024 source that npx @capacitor/assets generate reads, if you prefer to generate icons in CI.

### Is my image uploaded?

No. The icons are drawn and zipped in your browser. Nothing is sent to CapWrapp or anyone else.

## About CapWrapp

CapWrapp turns a web app on GitHub — built with Lovable, Bolt, Base44, Cursor or by hand — into iPhone and Android apps. It adds Capacitor if the repo needs it, signs the builds, and ships them to TestFlight and Google Play from GitHub Actions, with no Mac or Xcode on your side.
