# Guideline 2.3.8: app icon or name doesn’t match

> Rejected under Guideline 2.3.8 because the home-screen icon or name doesn’t match the App Store? Regenerate every icon from one image, then resubmit.

**Guideline 2.3.8 — Accurate Metadata: the icon or name doesn’t match.** What people see on the home screen doesn’t match the App Store: the icons look different — often a leftover default or placeholder in one icon size — or the name under the icon is far from the App Store name.

## What this rejection means

What people see on the home screen doesn’t match the App Store: the icons look different — often a leftover default or placeholder in one icon size — or the name under the icon is far from the App Store name.

## Why reviewers send it

People should recognise on their home screen the app they downloaded. When one icon size still has Capacitor’s default artwork, or the name under the icon is very different from the listing, reviewers flag the metadata as inaccurate.

## The message App Review sends

```
Guideline 2.3.8 - Performance - Accurate Metadata
We noticed that the app icon displayed on the device and the large icon displayed on the App Store do not appear to be the same.
```

The exact wording changes from one review to the next; the guideline number is what to look for.

## How to fix it

1. Generate every icon size from one image so they are identical, and remove old or default images from AppIcon.appiconset.
2. If you added dark or tinted icon variants, keep the same design.
3. Keep the name under the icon (appName in capacitor.config) close to the App Store name; a shorter version is fine.
4. Upload a new build.

The [app icon generator](https://capwr.app/free-tools/app-icon-generator) makes every iPhone and Android icon from one image, so the home screen and the store always match.

## What to reply in App Store Connect

Replace the [brackets] with what you actually changed:

```
Guideline 2.3.8 — Every icon in the build now comes from the same artwork as the App Store icon, and the name under the icon matches the App Store name.
```
