What this rejection means

App Review thinks the app repeats something already on the App Store: the same template, concept or code as other apps, or one more app in a crowded category such as flashlights, fortune telling or dating. Apps built from a builder’s default template, and generic AI-chat apps, often land here.

Why reviewers send it

Apple keeps the App Store from filling up with near-identical apps. Reviewers compare the binary, the metadata and the concept with apps already submitted, so template-built apps and close copies of other apps get flagged — and so do developers who publish many similar apps instead of one.

The message App Review sends

Guideline 4.3(a) - Design - Spam

We noticed your app shares a similar binary, metadata, and/or concept as apps previously submitted by a terminated Apple Developer Program account.

The exact wording changes from one review to the next; the guideline number is what to look for.

How to fix it

  1. Make the app clearly yours: a specific audience, your own content, and a design that isn’t the builder’s default template.
  2. Remove template leftovers: placeholder text, sample data, stock screens and default icons.
  3. If you publish several similar apps, merge them into one app with the variations inside — Apple asks for exactly that.
  4. Reply with who the app is for and what it does that similar apps don’t. A reply alone rarely works if the app hasn’t changed.

Before you resubmit, run the Guideline 4.2 self-audit: six questions on what reviewers look for in a wrapped web app.

Fix it with Lovable, Bolt or Cursor

If the app was built with an AI builder, paste this into it, then check the result on a phone:

Remove every placeholder, sample-data and template screen, and give the app its own visual identity and real content for [our audience].

What to reply in App Store Connect

Replace the [brackets] with what you actually changed:

Guideline 4.3 — [App name] is built for [specific audience] and does [what makes it different] that general [category] apps don’t. Since the last submission we have [replaced the template screens, added our own content, redesigned the interface]. We don’t publish other versions of this app.
